The Film

A girl enters the home of a Tinder date... only to discover it is a house of horrors.

The opening titles play over a phone screen. A young woman named Alexis has been texting with a man she matched with on Tinder, and she agrees to come over to his house.

He watches her arrive through the peephole in his front door, phone in hand. He lets her in wearing a striped shirt, and she walks in still looking at her own phone. She tells him she is happy he looks just like his picture.

He takes her down the hall to a candlelit bedroom with a big LOVE sign over the bed. She likes the lighting. Then she sees what is laid out on the bed. He reminds her she said she liked it rough, and she asks what that is. He is a serial killer. He comes at her swinging, and she runs out into the house.

The house only gets worse. In a room washed in red light, a bearded cannibal is feeding on a woman's body on a bed. He looks up and tells Alexis she looks tasty. She runs again, down a dark hallway.

She ends up in a fog-filled bedroom lit green and blue. Someone is lying in the bed. A possessed woman with a rotted face rises and comes after her, and a cross comes out in the struggle.

The last shot finds Alexis standing still in the living room. The idea behind the film is that every villain in the house was once a Tinder date, lured in by the house and turned into a monster.

Deleted Scenes & Trivia

Outtakes and behind the scenes

  • A four-minute blooper and behind-the-scenes reel was released on May 9, 2020. It shows the improvised shoot, the cannibal close-up and a fake-blood throw that had to be repeated because it was thrown from too close.
  • There is no alternate story cut: the short was conceived without a screenplay and planned shot by shot after the scheduled Theta shoot fell through.

Trivia

  • The opening titles read JDuDs Productions presents a StabMovies.com short film, then show the title, Swipe Left.
  • The opening credits list the four makers in order: Joshua Patrick Dudley, Nicole Linton, Rachel Alexandria Arnold and Daniel Bucciano.
  • Sources name the lead differently. StabMovies.com calls her Alexis and IMDb calls her Girl.
  • The bloopers and behind the scenes video came out on May 9, 2020, a year and a half after the short.
  • The short runs 4:47 and the bloopers and behind the scenes video runs about 4 minutes, so the extras are almost as long as the film.
  • This short film was not scripted! It was conceived and shot on the spot when production on our original full-length film Theta was shut down.
  • This is also one of our only films to be shot outside of our home state of New Hampshire, it was filmed in Western Massachusetts.
  • The idea behind the film was all the villains in the house were once Tinder dates themselves, lured in by the house and turned into monsters.

Connections

  • Made in place of a weekend of filming for Theta, StabMovies.com's planned original feature.
  • Like Game Night (2017), it was made up on the spot by Joshua Patrick Dudley, Rachel Alexandria Arnold and Daniel Bucciano after another shoot fell through.

Production

Swipe Left was not scripted. It was made up and shot on the spot when production on Theta, the original feature film StabMovies.com had planned for that weekend, was shut down.

In the behind the scenes footage Dudley says the weekend should have been Theta filming. The footage shows him directing the cannibal close-up, asking for drool as Dan eats, and setting up a shot where a cup of fake blood is thrown at an actor. He had to redo it because it was thrown from too close.

It is one of the few StabMovies.com films shot outside New Hampshire. It was filmed in Western Massachusetts.
